Massachusetts State Police Choose Helicopter Flight Training Center

Posted on Friday 23rd October 2015 | First Responder & Security

The Massachusetts State Police Air Wing chose the Helicopter Flight Training Center, a Metro Aviation company, as its training partner for simulator training. The MSP is the largest full-time public safety aviation unit in New England and responds to more than 1,900 mission requests annually.

Pilots and their Tactical Flight Officers (TFO) will begin training in the EC135 Level D Full Motion Simulator and the AS350 Level 7 flight training device in November (the EC135T2+ is the MSP’s primary duty aircraft).  “The training will consist of normal and emergency procedures, as well as inadvertent IMC,” said Air Wing Commander Robert Smith.  “Metro did the EC135 completions for our fleet, and we are now using the Helicopter Flight Training Center for our simulator training.”

The MSP made the funding available partially in response to the NTSB recommendation that law enforcement crews receive IIMC simulator training.

The best way to be fully informed about airline simulation and training is with CAT - Civil Aviation Training Magazine.

CAT is published 6 times per year as a printed magazine and in an online version. If you don't receive CAT magazine you can order a subscription to the printed magazine here. To set up a free subscription to the online version, please click here.
