Airbus Foundation holds more youth development workshops in Singapore

The Airbus Foundation, together with its partners The Little Engineer, the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore and the Singapore Space and Technology Association, has conducted two further workshops as part of the Airbus Little Engineer programme in Singapore.

The first four-hour workshop, which was organised with the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore, took place between 24-25 August at the Aviation Open House at Suntec City. It introduced students to the process of assembling an A380, from the resources to the logistics, until the manpower needed to do so.

60 students were tasked to assemble an A380 model and program it with their own algorithm so it could manoeuvre on the tarmac, ready for take-off. Those taking part were joined by NG Chee Meng, Singapore’s Minister for Education (Schools) and Second Minister for Transport.

The second workshop, which was coordinated with the Singapore Space and Technology Association, took place on 25 August at the ACS Junior Primary School. 15 students carried out the simulation of a launch mission to space. Over the course, students assembled and launched a rocket, set up a base, established communications and ‘explored Mars’.

This marks the second round of the programme in Singapore since August 2015. The goal of the initiative by the Airbus Foundation is to encourage students to understand and embrace technology and ignite a passion that could grow into an exciting career in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
