On 16 April, 12 students began studying at the newly established airBalticTraining Pilot Academy. The group will become airBaltic pilots upon completion of a full-time programme in approximately two years’ time.
Martin Gauss, Chief Executive Officer of airBaltic, commented, “It is a historic day, not only for the students but also for airBaltic. Launching our own Pilot Academy has been a major step in securing that more Baltic pilots will join our airline in the future.”
“We are the first to receive certification for the Integrated Airline Transport Pilot course in Latvia,” declared Pauls Cālītis, airBaltic’s SVP Flight Operations. “New training aircraft are ordered and studies have begun. Going forward, we will continue to deliver the most modern and professional education to our students.”
In February, airBalticTraining ordered three single-engine DA40 NG and one twin-engine DA42-VI from Diamond Aircraft with options for eleven further planes. Deliveries of the aircraft are expected to begin in May 2018.
The application process for the fall group at the airBalticTraining Pilot Academy will begin in June 2018.
