A two-day bilateral Passage Exercise (PASSEX) between the Royal Navy (RN) Carrier Strike Group (CSG)-21 led by the Aircraft Carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth and the Indian Navy (IN) took place between July 21-22. The exercises which took place in the Bay of Bengal, featured a total of 12 warships, two submarines, 30+ aircraft and 4,500 personnel.
CSG-21 comprises of the HMS Queen Elizabeth, Type 23 Frigates, an Astute Class submarine and other RN surface combatants. Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW), Anti-Air and Anti-Surface Warfare (ASuW) training were conducted during the exercises which also featured the maiden participation of F-35B Lightning 5th generation fighter jets operating from the deck of HMS Queen Elizabeth.
The IN contingent comprised of the stealth frigate Satpura, Rajput Class destroyer Ranvir, Project 28 ASW Corvette Kavaratti and the Kora Class Corvette Kulish along with the fleet replenishment ship Jyoti and a submarine. An IN P-8I maritime patrol aircraft also took part.
