Together with Seeing Machines, Emirates has been using advanced gaze tracking technology to better understand how pilots interact and monitor instruments during real-time procedures that could pose safety risks.

Emirates is collecting gaze data from a sample of Emirates line pilots while they’re flying standard training scenarios in Emirates flight simulators. This factual data can then be analysed and fed back into the training process, leading to safer operations.

Australian company Seeing Machines’ head and eye tracking technology has already been used to improve safety across industries including mining, road and rail transport. Emirates believes it will enhance training for flight deck crew by preparing them for a wide range of scenarios in the air.

The partnership with Seeing Machines is involving Emirates in the early stages of developing real-world applications that add value to flight training not just for the airline, but for the global aviation industry.

The airline's new Flight Training Academy is due to open in November 2017.
