Women shine at Apprentice Awards

Women took three of the four awards at the 2019 Apprentice Award Ceremony hosted by Resource Group last month.

The award ceremony celebrates the hard work and dedication of all 78 engineer apprentices who have completed their Foundation Phase.

The ceremony took place at Hangar K4, Cotswold Airport, England, where the Resource Group Training Solutions division is based. British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, easyJet, Cobham, Marshall and CHC Helicopters were among the employers in attendance.

The four Apprentice Awards were:

Exemplar Apprentice Aircraft Award: Jade Bodmin

AcademicApprentice Aircraft Award: Mandy Shum

HandSkills Aircraft Award: Patrick Mumford

ChairmanAward: Feven Zeray

There was also a special mention for Jade Bodmin, who was the first apprentice to receive the first CAT A Certificate of recognition during the foundation phase of the Apprentice programme. This has never been achieved before under the new Apprentice Standards.

It is hoped the three winners will become role models in an industry which is striving to increase female numbers.

"My daughter has said she wants to fix helicopters and fly planes when she’s older," said Chairman Award winner Feven Zeray.

Jenny Body OBE,  Chair of the Royal Aeronautical Society Education and Skills Committee and the RAeS Diversity & Inclusion Aeronautical Society,  was the keynote speaker.

During her speech at the ceremony, Body discussed the importance of working together in the aviation and aerospace industry. She detailed the path she negotiated to progress from an engineer to President of the Royal Aeronautical Society.

Resource Group has been serving the recruitment and training needs of the Aviation and Aerospace sector for some 40 years. By December, they would have trained over 700 aviation maintenance apprentices.
