A ribbon cutting ceremony was held in early March for Atlantic Technical College’s new Avionics Systems Technician Program at Atlantic Technical College in Coconut Creek, Florida. The educational initiative and partnership is between Broward County Public Schools (BCPS), the city of Fort Lauderdale, Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport and Broward College, and its first students began in January 2020.
Students enrolled in the program will learn about electronics systems and technology for careers in the aviation industry. As part of the program, students will also participate in summer internships at the Executive Airport with Atlantic Technical College business sponsors. As the next phase of program is developed and implemented, the school’s goal is to have a first-class aviation academy in full operation within the next three to four years.
Upon completion of the program and meeting eligibility requirements, including the attainment of an aligned industry certifications, students may be awarded credits toward an AS/AAS Degree by Broward College or the Florida College System.
