A ribbon cutting ceremony was held in early March forAtlantic Technical College’s new Avionics Systems Technician Program at AtlanticTechnical College in Coconut Creek, Florida. The educational initiative andpartnership is between Broward County Public Schools (BCPS), the city of FortLauderdale, Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport and Broward College, and itsfirst students began in January 2020.
Students enrolled in the program will learn aboutelectronics systems and technology for careers in the aviation industry. Aspart of the program, students will also participate in summer internships atthe Executive Airport with Atlantic Technical College business sponsors. As thenext phase of program is developed and implemented, the school’s goal is to havea first-class aviation academy in full operation within the next three to fouryears.
Upon completion of the program and meeting eligibilityrequirements, including the attainment of an aligned industry certifications,students may be awarded credits toward an AS/AAS Degree by Broward College orthe Florida College System.
