Australia Inks Contract for Mobile Weapons Training Simulators

The Australian Department of Defence has inked an AU$4.1 million contract with InVeris Training Solutions Pty Ltd for supply of 14 mobile weapons training simulators.

The Australian Army will receive nine systems with the Navy to take delivery of the remaining five. Deliveries are to conclude by July 2021.

The fully digitised Mobile Weapons Training Simulation System (MWTSS) supplied by the NSW-based company will be used to provide training to Australian Defence personnel on EF-88 assault rifles along with several other weapon systems.

“The contract includes the simulation system, associated training and systems which are compatible with in-service weapons, and then converted to laser-based simulators,” Minister for Defence Industry, Melissa Price, said in a statement. “The system provides an efficient and cost-effective mobile small arms training and skills maintenance capability for Australia’s regionally based Army units, as well as Royal Australian Navy personnel in remote areas.”

The Australian Army will deploy seven of the systems in support of Army Reserve units and the remaining two systems will support the Amphibious Ready Group and 2/30th Training Group in Butterworth, Malaysia and other such deployable units.

The Navy will deploy the MWTSS at key naval bases training needs while on-shore and at sea.
