The Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) Integration Pilot Program (IPP) consists of 10 state, local and tribal governments that will collect drone data involving night operations, flights over people and beyond pilot’s line of sight, package delivery, detect-and-avoid technologies and the reliability and security of data-links between pilots and aircraft.
Announced last October by the White House, the program is designed to partner government with industry to tackle the most pressing concerns regarding the integration of drone operations into the national airspace.
Data from these operations will let the Department of Transportation (DOT) and FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) develop new rules that among other concerns, allow more complex low-altitude operations and speed the approval process that currently needs special authorizations.
