Aviation Performance Solutions (APS) announced today at the World Aviation Training Conference and Tradeshow (WATS 2017) the official release of its Boeing Type-Specific Upset Prevention and Recovery Training (UPRT) programs. The APS Boeing 737 / 747 / 757 / 767 / 777 / 787 type-specific UPRT program is in compliance with ICAO Document 10011 Manual on Aeroplane UPRT as well as Boeing Operations Manual (OM) and Flight Crew Training Manual (FCTM) guidance concerning upset training.

This APS Airline UPRT program has been vetted over 10 years in direct consultation with Boeing UPRT experts and is unique for APS in that APS deploys its Boeing type-specific UPRT instructor to the customers’ preferred training location globally. The program is being headed up by Capt. Dave Carbaugh, formerly with Boeing and the primary author of the Airplane Upset Recovery Training Aid Capt. Carbaugh, formerly Boeing Chief Pilot Flight Operations Safety, is both an APS-Certified Boeing Simulator UPRT Instructor and APS-Certified Boeing Simulator Train-the-Trainer Instructor.

Loss of Control In-flight (LOC-I) is a flight that occurs outside the normal flight envelope with the pilot unable to control the aircraft. In a July 2016 report issued by Boeing for 2006 through 2015, LOC-I is identified as the leading cause of fatalities in commercial aviation worldwide, and represents more than 40 percent of all fatalities. The APS Boeing Type-Specific UPRT program, for both airlines and training centers, mitigates the LOC-I threat to air safety through pilot education and practical skill development. “This new Boeing Type-specific upset training program has been in development for over a decade and is completely ready for mainstream airline training delivery,” says Paul BJ Ransbury, president of Aviation Performance Solutions. “Under the leadership of the APS Boeing UPRT Chief Instructor, Carbaugh, this program is fully comprehensive, in direct compliance with ICAO and Boeing UPRT guidance, and a truly incredible learning experience for all type-rated Boeing pilots. APS is committed to developing industry leading information, training resources and programs necessary to ultimately overcome aviation’s leading fatal threat to air safety, Loss of Control In-flight.”
