On 1 January 2018, Lufthansa Technik AG (LHT) became the new training organisation for approximately a dozen young people who were previously in training programmes at Air Berlin Technik.
LHT and United Services Trade Union ver.di made sure this was the case after the new owner of Air Berlin Technik announced it would not continue the company's training programmes. Now, all Air Berlin aircraft mechanic and avionics trainees who began training in 2015, 2016 or 2017 will have the opportunity to conclude training programmes in their desired professions.
With these new trainees, the total number of people in traditional or dual-study training programmes with the Lufthansa Technik Group in Germany will rise to just under 600. LHT welcomed 151 new students of its own in September 2017.
