The Qantas Group chose Wellcamp Airport in Toowoomba, Australia as the first of two regional locations for its new Pilot Academy that will open by mid-2019. Construction of the Academy’s new $35 million facilities will start in October, in partnership with the Queensland Government and the Wagner Corporation, who own the airport.

The Academy is part of the Qantas Group’s strategy to build a long-term talent pipeline for its airlines and help the industry meet the growing need for skilled aviators. It expects to train as many as 500 pilots a year across both sites, including cadets from other airlines and general aviation. L3 Commercial Aviation will be the training provider for this site.

Qantas Group says it chose Toowoomba because it is home to Australia’s newest airport and offers over 300 days of sunshine –creating an environment conducive to pilot training. The second site location will be decided before the end of the year.

Applications for student enrollments will open by the end of this year. For more information, go to
