Norway’s Pilot Flight Academy (PFA) will open its airline pilot education programme at Hévíz-Balaton Airport, Hungary, in early 2020.
PFA, together with the Hungarian government, will provide 100% financing to EU-students who qualify to become airline pilots. PFA is the first and only pilot training organisation in Europe to provide this.
Hungary state secretary László György and PFA’s CEO Frode Granlund signed the agreement at an official ceremony in the Hungarian Ministry for Innovation and Technology.
More than 700,000 new pilots are needed over the next 20-years to meet global demands, a forecast by Boeing predicted. Europe, alone, requires 7,000 new pilots ever year over the same period. However, the education rate in Europe is only at 50 percent of this demand.
Granlund said its programme reduced the pilot demand by helping "student candidates who are unable to finance a pilot education".
PFA, and the Hungarian government, will offer full financing to all EU-citizens who pass the selection process to become a pilot established by one of the airline customers.
PFA announced in April it was expanding its pilot training to Hungary .
