St. Vincent Begins Work on $13M Training Center

St. Vincent Health has broken ground on a project it says will benefit current and future health care workers throughout the Midwest. The $13.6 million William Nasser Healthcare Education and Simulation Center will house classrooms and simulation spaces including an operating room, delivery room and intensive care unit. The center honors Nasser, who St. Vincent says is known by many as Indiana's "Father of Cardiology."

The system expects the facility, which it calls the biggest of its kind in the state, to be complete by July 2018.

The simulation rooms will feature high-tech responsive manikins and equipment that it says will help train physicians, nurses, residents and other caregivers to learn to react to unusual or high-stake situations. Chief Executive Officer Jonathan Nalli says the facility will also allow healthcare professionals to "develop innovative procedures that will help improve the care and safety of our patients."

Joel Feldman, regional president of St. Vincent Indianapolis, tells Inside INdiana Business William Nasser was a "longtime innovator and visionary" at St. Vincent. "In large part, it was his vision in cardiology that allowed this hospital really to exist as it does today. He was very passionate about education and about quality in training physicians and his family's gift has made this possible in his name."
