Saab has been sub-contracted by Lockheed Martin UK to assemble 16 AJAX virtual crew turret trainers for the U.K. Ministry of Defence.

“I’m delighted to have secured this contract and look forward to building on the strong relationship that Saab has with Lockheed Martin,” said Åsa Thegström, head of business unit Training and Simulation at Saab business area Dynamics.

The simulator is designed to train a vehicle crew to use all functions of a turret system including armaments, radios, sights and more. Saab is also contracted to design and deliver live simulators for the Warrior CSP Armoured Vehicle platform and AJAX, the MOD’s program to upgrade and change its armored fighting vehicle capabilities.

“It’s exciting to be involved with the UK MOD’s leading equipment programmes and be able to contribute to highly realistic training for soldiers,” said Andrew Walton, head of country unit UK at Saab market area Europe.

This latest contract award comes on the heels of recent news that Lockheed Martin, in conjunction with Saab, have been awarded the Vehicle Tactical Engagement Simulation System (VTESS) contract by the US Army.
