Saab upgrades Germany Army vehicles to multinational standard SISO

Saab received an SEK 107 million order from the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINB) to upgrade the German Army’s vehicle simulators.

Beginning this year, the company will provide new software and hardware for German Army vehicles and tanks operating the laser simulator BT 46, such as Leopard, Fennek, Marder and Wiesel. The new standard for laser codes, SISO, is implemented in the upgrade, meaning the German Army will be interoperable with most of the European countries. As more countries conduct multinational exercises, it’s more important to undertake standards like SISO.

“An effect of the security situation in Europe is that more and more of our customers emphasize that interoperability is extremely important in order to carry out multinational exercises of high quality,” said Åsa Thegström, head of business unit Training & Simulation at Saab´s business area Dynamics.

Soon, there will be 12 countries in Europe using the new standard.
