The Ukrainian Navy has commenced training its personnel on the new Neptune 360ST anti-ship missile system for coastal defence.
The Ukraine is developing three variants of the Neptune, namely a mobile coastal defence system, another for use on missile boats and corvettes and the third for use on airborne platforms. Training for the first missile battery is underway at the Ukrainian Navy Institute for officers of the Navy’s Coastal Missile Division. The first Neptune 360ST units will be deployed in the Azov-Black Sea region.
The Neptune 360ST is manufactured by Ukraine’s State Kyiv Design Bureau “Luch” (SKDB Luch )and the missiles have a range of up to 300km with a 150kg warhead.
The new coastal defence system will defend against cruisers, destroyers, frigates, corvettes, amphibious landing ships and vehicles, with the ability to sink a ship of up to 5,000 tonnes.
The Neptune 360ST system comprises of a wheeled launcher that can carry 4 rockets, a mobile command post, transport vehicles and ground equipment. A typical rocket unit comprises of four launchers.
