The George Mason University College of Public Health emphasizes virtual reality training for all students, with the Department of Social Work leading efforts. Collaborative creation of an interprofessional social work simulation adheres to Healthcare Standards of Best Practice, according to the school.

The VR training, provided to 28 Master of Social Work students in the HRSA-funded Community Academic Partnership-Behavioral Health program, offers a person-centered learning approach with real-time skill application in case simulations. This comprehensive experience includes pre- and post-simulation educational materials and debriefs, connecting student experiences to direct practice learning objectives.
