While the U.S. has been a leader in scientific discovery and medical innovation, diseases such as Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s and many others lack effective treatments. Additionally, it takes more than ten years and approximately $2 billion to bring a new drug to market. Efforts are underway to address this process.

Early this year, the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee Chairman Senator Lamar Alexander (R-TN), and Ranking Member Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) kicked off an initiative to advance American leadership in medical innovation. This is occurring as the House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Representative Fred Upton (R-MI) and Representative Diana DeGette (D-CO) advance the 21st Century Cures Act.
