Alelo won a multi-year, $8-million contract from the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Defense Language and National Security Education Office (DLNSEO) to expand and enhance its suite of Virtual Cultural Awareness Trainers (VCATs). The VCATs are simulation-based learning environments that help military personnel develop the cultural skills they need when working overseas.

Within each VCAT course, learners can interactively practice and demonstrate their cultural understanding in virtual scenarios where they can apply critical decision-making in contextualized environments.

Under the contract, Alelo will create VCATs for additional countries; incorporate interactive games and learning resources; and update cultural content to reflect evolving cultural dynamics due to conflicts, refugee migrations, urbanization and environmental change.

The U.S. Combatant Commands deploys U.S. personnel around the world and uses VCAT, DLNSEO says, as its preferred method to meet culture and language training requirements.
