US Army’s STE-CFT moves to UCF

Orlando, Florida’s Central Florida Research Park will soonbe the home of the U.S. Army’s Synthetic Training Environment Cross FunctionalTeam.

The STE-CFT, which is spearheading the Army’s efforts tomodernize training, uses state-of-the-art technology to bring together virtualand real-world environments to better prepare and protect soldiers. Beginningthis spring, the team will operate from University of Central Florida’s (UCF) PartnershipIV building, where they will work alongside the Army’s Program Executive Officefor Simulation, Training and Instrumentation and a contingent of researchersfrom UCF’s Institute for Simulation and Training. The arrival of the STE-CFTwas celebrated at a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the site of the new lab.

Currently based at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, the STE-CFT will relocate its lab, operations and 35 technical and administrative employees to their new location in the Partnership IV building. STE enables the current and future training environment, providing commanders with the ability to train as they will fight—with organic equipment, opposing forces and terrain.

A contingent of modeling and simulation researchers fromUCF’s Institute for Simulation and Training will occupy 2,200 square feet inthe Partnership IV building space, colocating with Army personnel in the newlab space to assist in developing new training technology.
