NATO battlegroup begins Eager Leopard exercise

NATO’s multinational battlegroup in Lithuania began exerciseEager Leopard in Pabrade on 17 April 2019. The exercise mobilises around 650troops, including Czech, Dutch, German and Norwegian forces. It provides anopportunity for the battlegroup to enhance its readiness, testing its abilityto deploy troops and equipment.

The battlegroup will conduct three training sequences of 36hours, testing defensive and offensive tactics. “This exercise is the perfectchance for the German, Dutch and Czech companies to increase their readinessand capabilities. This is especially important in order to prepare for theLevel 3 Field training exercise Iron Wolf, which we will conduct with ourLithuanian partners in June,” said Lt. Col. Peer Papenbroock, Comander ofbattlegroup in Lithuania.

NATO deployed four multinational battlegroups to Estonia,Latvia, Lithuania and Poland in 2017. These battlegroups, led by the UnitedKingdom, Canada, Germany and the United States respectively, are multinational,and combat-ready. NATO’s battlegroups form part of the biggest reinforcement ofthe Alliance‘s collective defence in a generation.
