A new German Army helicopter command will become operational in April next year. The new command is intended to streamline the decision-making process of the German-Dutch DSK (Division Schnelle Kräfte) Rapid Forces Division.

The new command may also tie in other departments, such as the German Air Force and German Navy for procurement, though it will not be a joint command.

The five-year-old DSK was created following Russia's annexation of Crimea. It is one of three divisions in the Germany Army, along with two Panzer divisions. Under DSK command are NH90 transport helicopters, Tiger helicopters, as well as Royal Netherlands Air Force Chinook and Super Pumas.

Helicopter Flight Training Systems (HFTS) – a consortium in which Airbus Helicopter, CAE, Rheinmetall and Thales – is modernising flight simulators for the German Army NH90 helicopters.

The project involves upgrade to the latest MR-1 standard called MR-1, computer configurations, replacement of the instructor station and the tactical situation animation software (CGF), as well as EASA Level C qualification. The December 2019 contract encompasses operation, service and maintenance of the simulators through 2027, with a contractually guaranteed availability rate of at least 98%.
