Russian Snipers Complete Experimental Training Programme

The Russian military recently concluded an experimental training programme for army snipers. The exercise involved 100 servicemen from the Russian combined arms army of the Western Military District from intelligence and sniper units.

The pilot training programme took place at a sniper training ground and involved individual training along with teams training in pairs.

The snipers practised a variety of training scenarios including positional warfare, reconnaissance of targets, selection and arrangement of sniper positions and moving between positions in the day and at night. Urban warfare and baiting for the reflection of an optical sight was also trained for.

As part of the exercises, the trainee snipers were asked to perform covert reconnaissance and also undertook camouflaging false positions and firing of a false distraction shot before elimination of a target.
