Quantum3D has released the Quantum3D Wildfire Simulation System, a software suite to provide real-time visualization of large-scale wildfires, combined with accurate modeling of fire propagation. The primary target market for the Wildfire Simulation System is for the training of firefighting aircrew.

The suite provides an enhancement to Quantum3D’s Mantis product, a real-time visualization and training software system. Mantis already provides the capability for simulating the terrain, airports, and various aircraft that may be used in firefighting.

The company worked with aerial firefighting subject matter experts to develop advanced wildfire simulation software and training scenarios to improve the efficiency and safety of aerial firefighting. Fires of up to 400 SqKm can be simulated. The software will not only be simulating the ground fire and effects of the aerial retardant drops being released by the trainees but will also be simulating the dynamic and dangerous environmental changes created by fire that pilots may encounter.

The system consists of two main components: the Burn Model which provides real-time physics-based computation of the spread of the fire over time, and the Wildfire Plug-in for Quantum3D’s Mantis Image Generation software, which provides the visuals for the display of realistic forest wildfires.
