Stony Brook University will significantly expand its nursing simulation training thanks to $20.5 million in combined SUNY and university funding. The investment will support the creation of a new simulation center designed to enhance hands-on clinical education using the latest simulation technologies.

Training will focus on critical practice areas such as labor and delivery, high-acuity care, and community health. The new facility is expected to boost prelicensure nursing enrollment by 19 percent in its first year and by 27 percent over five years.

The center will also integrate simulcast software to deliver remote training opportunities across Long Island, addressing regional workforce needs. This initiative follows recent legislation allowing up to one-third of nursing clinical hours to be completed via high-quality simulation. Stony Brook’s expanded capacity aims to strengthen clinical skills, support interdisciplinary learning, and help meet the growing demand for qualified healthcare professionals.
