A new virtual reality training program developed by Edith Cowan University is set to improve how first responders handle rare out-of-hospital birth emergencies.

Known as NEONATE, the program includes a 30–40-minute simulation focused on neonatal care skills like CPR, temperature regulation, and Apgar assessments. Aimed at paramedics, volunteers, and healthcare students, the tool enhances engagement through realism and accessibility.

Trials are underway, and the program is scheduled for release in early 2026, offering a flexible, immersive supplement to traditional training approaches.
