U.S. Army Awards Contract to Enhance Marksmanship Training

The U.S. Army awarded Aptima a $168,000 Other Transaction Authority (OTA) agreement to develop a prototype methodology that aligns current Army virtual, small-arms, marksmanship training systems with real-world, live-fire marksmanship training.

“The purpose of this agreement is for Aptima to develop a methodology that efficiently transitions soldiers from basic to more advanced small arms marksmanship skills,” said Tim Greeff, chief executive officer of the National Security Technology Accelerator (NSTXL). “Once completed, the methodology will be sent to the Army training schools for refinement and incorporation into future Army training doctrine.” (The NSTXL is a non-profit, Pentagon partner for rapidly delivering mission-driven systems and emerging technologies to the U.S. military.)

The final prototype methodology will describe the instruction phases and soldier milestones, assessment processes and live/virtual marksmanship range requirements will form the foundation for future training concepts that meet current Army readiness requirements.

Aptima will deliver the prototype methodology to the Army by Summer 2019.
