Launching into its fourteenth year, the Serious Games Showcase & Challenge (SGS&C) announced that submissions are officially open. SGS&C is a venue for recognition of excellence in the field of Serious Games development, and the top games, as chosen by the worldwide panel and students in participating schools, will be celebrated at this year’s 2019 Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference (I/ITSEC).
With each passing year, the submissions grow more engaging and creative, and once the games are vetted, chosen finalists will exhibit at I/ITSEC, where all attendees are invited to play the games and vote for the coveted People’s Choice award.
As part of the process, all applicants are required to submit an “intent to submit” form by September 13, 2019, to ensure the committee is adequately prepared to accept each game’s materials.
Awards will be given on December 5, 2019, at I/ITSEC for the best games developed in the student, government, and industry categories, as well as for the best XR (VR/AR/MR) game, Students’ Choice Award, People’s Choice Award, and the Innovation Award that was introduced in 2017.
“I’m particularly excited to see how this year’s submissions meet the challenge to meld innovative technologies with creative game design approaches in order to meet real-world learning needs, as well as bring the most powerful learning experiences,” said Jenn McNamara, VP of BreakAway Games and SGS&C director. “With recent advancements in XR, we’ve seen a lot of emphasis on employing the new hardware and providing novel experiences, and I now look forward to seeing thoughtful learning games emerge within these environments.”
