Tulmar Invents Smoking Electronic Device Simulator

Tulmar Safety Systems has launched a new product to train cabin crew on the proper procedure for dealing with fire or smoke emitted by a portable electronic device (PED) in a confined space due to lithium-ion battery failure.

The device is the size of a commonly used PED (Personal Electronic Device). Upon turning on the unit, a smoke-like “fog” is emitted to replicate a lithium-ion battery failure requiring immediate intervention from the flight crew.

“As an increasing number of airline passengers carry onboard various electronic devices powered by lithium-ion batteries, the risk of a battery over heating is real. Airlines have been wanting to train on a simple device that can safely simulate such an incident,” said Patrick Phillips, Vice President of Sales with Tulmar Safety Systems.

“We are launching the product in several world markets and as the pandemic begins to subside and airline cabin crew return to training centers, this new smoking PED as we call it will help airlines provide a realistic experience to their crew”, said Phillips.
