The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) are training with the German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr) as part of Exercise Panzer Strike. The armor training and live-firing exercise will take place in two phases - spring and autumn, with the former completed this March.

This year marks the 15th edition of the exercise series, which began in 2009.

Exercise Panzer Strike will involve 14 Leopard 2SG Main Battle Tanks (MBs), 14 Hunter Armoured Fighting Vehicles (AFV) and servicemen from the SAF’s 48 SAR and Armour Training Institute.

Over the course of the exercises which took place at the Oberlausitz Military Training Area (OMTA), Germany, the SAF successfully conducted a bilateral live-firing exercise with the Leopard 2SG MBTs and the Hunter AFVs.

The SAF’s 3rd Company, 48th Battalion Singapore Armoured Regiment (48 SAR) trained with their German Army counterparts from 391st Panzergrenadier Battalion.

The Oberlausitz OMTA is quarter of the size of Singapore, and training can be conducted with concurrent live-firing of up to four ranges for armored units.
