Tomorrow in Cascais, the conversation turns to the people at the centre of training. Who teaches them, how do we know they’re ready, and how do they stay fit to fly?
Here's a look ahead at what tomorrow's conference streams have in store.
One destination, different paths
The day opens at 9:30 in the Auditorium with The Future of Ab Initio Pilot Training: One Destination, Different Paths. easyJet and ITA Airways train through the same organisation, Urbe Aero, but they follow very different routes. easyJet’s pathway is built around CBTA, EBT and simulator-based learning, while ITA Airways places more weight on traditional aircraft-based experience. With EASA’s Ascanio Russo on the panel, the session asks whether there is a single best route, or whether several can reach the same standard.
When the instructor is the measurement
In CBTA and EBT, the instructor is the measurement instrument. So what happens when two instructors grade the same performance differently? At 11:30, CAE presents Beyond the CBTA Framework: Managing the Human and Operational Shift to CBTA, and Simaero follows with EBT & Instructor Standardization.
Evidence and AI, with the instructor still decides
At 14:15 in the Pilot stream, Amris Aviation, Hinfact, Volotea and StorkJet look at how existing training data can support real decisions. Hinfact will present Integrating Operational Efficiency in the Training Loop. In the ATO stream at the same time, Forget the Agents, Build the Pipeline: Lessons from Deploying AI in Aviation Training shares what has been learned from putting AI to work in training.
Building resilience from day one
For ATOs, the 11:30 session Building Resilience in Flight Training: Preparing the Next Generation of Aviators looks at confidence, self-efficacy and resilience, with speakers from Symbiotics, Sevenair Academy, Etihad Aviation Training and AviatePro.
Leadership and the unexpected in the cabin
The Cabin Crew stream starts at 9:30 with Beyond the Certificate: From Instructor to Educator and Training Mode ON, exploring where instructors make the difference once procedures are standardised. At 11:30, AEROTEAM’s workshop Are You a Good Leader? How Would You Know? asks a question that sounds simple until it has to be proven. In the afternoon, Birdy Gunputh of Lufthansa Aviation Training leads a workshop on evacuations that don’t follow the script: Managing Complex Emergency Evacuations: The Core Problem.
Does the technology actually land?
The Maintenance stream puts technology to the test. At 11:30, Lufthansa Technical Training presents From VR Demo to Training Adoption and SkyWest Airlines shares Remote Training: Improved Presentation = Improved Retention. At 14:15, sessions including The Age of Servicing Digital Twins and The 13th Factor: How Cultural Friction Amplifies the Dirty Dozen look at the human factors that technology alone can’t fix.
Fit to Fly, Fit to Last
The closing plenary at 16:45 brings all four streams together. Mental Health in Aviation: Reinforcing the Barriers and The Human Factors Revolution: Why It’s Time to Rethink the Way We Train Pilots asks what it takes to keep crews resilient over a whole career, not just through their next check.
