Following Merlin Flight Simulation Group’s successful international IT FLIES student aircraft design and handling competition at the UK’s University of Manchester in 2017, the group has confirmed the location will remain the same for 2018.
Charles-Antoine Lassonnery, current President of The University of Manchester’s Flight Simulation Society, which is very involved in the administration of IT FLIES this year, said, “The Flight Simulation Society of Manchester University feels honoured to host the IT FLIES competition once again this year.
“After last year’s tremendous success and impressive presentations, we expect nothing more than the best for this year’s competition. We are happy to see familiar faces from Dayton and Amsterdam again and will look forward to sharing our know-how and seeing what they have brought to the UK this year.
“The upgrade to Merlin’s flight software, Excalibur III, has made the modelling experience smoother than ever and has helped us explore new areas including non-uniform aerofoil cross-sections and a hefty amount of playing around with the VTOL.”
IT FLIES is the only international student competition where student’s aircraft designs are flown and assessed in a simulator by a professional Test Pilot. To view the poster for the competition, click here.
