Auckland International Pilot Academy has acquired a Diamond DA42-VI multi-engine trainer from Australia, expanding capacity as the New Zealand flight school continues to grow its international student base.

The aircraft, currently registered VH-VNX and expected to operate as ZK-CGX, will supplement AIPA's existing DA42 for multi-engine and instrument flight rules training. The academy expects the aircraft operational by end of January 2026 following acceptance checks and instructor standardisation.

The DA42-VI features Garmin G1000 NXi avionics with Synthetic Vision Technology and ADS-B In/Out, integrated GFC 700 autopilot with yaw damper, factory-installed oxygen system, traffic awareness (Avidyne TAS 605A), and weather radar (Garmin GWX70).

"This aircraft strengthens our ability to deliver high-quality multi-engine and IFR training at scale, using modern systems that support standardisation, safety, and real-world readiness," said John Punshon, CEO of Auckland International Pilot Academy.

AIPA, based at North Shore Airport in Auckland, has doubled in size over the past 12 months, reflecting growing demand from domestic and international students. The academy offers NZQA-recognized diploma pathways aligned with New Zealand CAA and DGCA licensing outcomes.

The aircraft was supplied through Diamond Aircraft partner Utility Air, which provides aircraft sales and support across the Asia-Pacific region.
