Boeing has launched its new Virtual Airplane Procedures Trainer (VAPT) at the European Aviation Training Summit (EATS), marking a major step forward in digital aviation training.

The VAPT will provide immersive, accessible and customizable tools that elevate pilot learning and readiness. Pilots and flight training teams will be able to practice procedures outside of traditional training environments.

According to Chris Raymond, CEO of Boeing Global Services, the new VAPT would significantly impact how and when pilots and operators train and provide them with much needed flexibility,” underscoring Boeing’s commitment to digital innovation and enhanced customer outcomes.

The VAPT is the first product within Boeing’s Virtual Airplane product suite and is initially available for the Boeing 737 MAX. It is presently enabled for use on PCs and iPad devices. Boeing will launch the VAPT for its other aircraft models in future.

Chris Broom, vice president of Boeing Global Services, Commercial Training Solutions said pilots could enhance their skills with the VAPT, while training operators can tailor lessons to meet individual and organizational needs.

The VAPT delivers a realistic flight-deck practice with high-fidelity simulations and an intuitive authoring tool. The high-fidelity simulations can be experienced in 3D by pilots. It will help standardize training, reduce simulator familiarization time and improve readiness before working with Flight Training Devices.

Its intuitive and configurable self-service authoring tool allows training operators to manage their content by authoring, customizing and distributing training lessons across their training programmes. With the authoring tool, airlines can launch or change procedures instantly to their pilot pool.

The VPAT is powered by Microsoft Azure and Microsoft Flight Simulator. Dayan Rodriguez, Corporate Vice President, Manufacturing and Mobility, Microsoft said the collaboration “advances the future of flight by empowering the people at the heart of it,” combining Microsoft’s digital infrastructure with Boeing’s aviation expertise to prioritize safety and pilot confidence.

Boeing will be at the European Aviation Training Summit (EATS) in Cascais, Portugal, from 5- 6 November at booth 508. Stop by to learn more about this development.
