Astrom Training Solutions is bringing its GUN Model to the European Aviation Training Summit (EATS) in Cascais this week. The AI-assisted pilot training and assessment framework connects training, testing, remedial training and curriculum adjustment in a continuous improvement cycle, turning individual assessment records into information for instructors, pilots and training management.
The framework supports task-based grading, competency-based grading and Competency-Based Training and Assessment (CBTA) through a common evidence structure. Forms capture instructor observations, grades, comments and observable behaviours across training sessions, simulator checks, line checks and remedial training. Operators can configure grading and progression rules to match their approved training policies.
AI helps interpret observations, connect tasks with competencies and observable behaviours, and prepare grading suggestions and development plans. Supporting evidence is required for unsatisfactory, below-standard and exceptional performance. Instructors review, revise and confirm assessment decisions, while the system keeps the original recommendations, approved changes and an auditable history.
Astrom is extending the framework to include instructor concordance training. Instructors will independently score the same task videos using common grading criteria, with reports comparing their scores against each other and against coach-approved reference scores to highlight grading differences and scoring tendencies. Coaches can then use the findings to guide discussion, corrective action and reassessment.
The GUN Model compares each pilot’s performance with fleet requirements and individual development targets. Identified deficiencies carry forward into remedial plans with linked tasks, behaviours and instructor comments, and later assessments track whether the gaps have been closed.
At fleet level, aggregated task, competency and behavioural evidence helps training teams identify common gaps and inform curriculum adjustments, with recommendations remaining connected to their source evidence.
Astrom Training Solutions, Inc. is exhibiting at the European Aviation Training Summit (EATS), 3–5 November at the Estoril Congress Centre in Cascais, Portugal, at Booth 513. Stop by to learn more.
