Airbus is adding its digital flight training solutions to Skywise’s digital services portfolio, bringing the Mobile Airbus Training experience (MATe) Suite, Virtual Procedure Trainer (VPT) and Flight eLearning onto the Skywise platform.
Announced during EATS, Marc Lemeilleur, CEO of Skywise, said the company was unifying its digital flight training solutions on one platform. The integration is intended to allow Skywise to provide interactive cockpit learning earlier and more often within a pilot’s training programme.
The move is part of Airbus’ reorganisation of its digital business portfolio following the creation of Skywise, formed through the merger of Navblue and Skywise Digital Solutions earlier this year.
Skywise said the new platform would simplify registration and access control for training managers, operators and pilots, whether managing curricula or preparing for type rating and recurrent training.
The cloud-based MATe Suite provides portable, self-paced distance learning for the Airbus A320, A330 and A350 families. Its System Knowledge Modules (SKM) use an interactive 3D environment to familiarise trainees with cockpit layouts and aircraft systems. The suite also provides familiarisation briefings on aircraft engines, models and system differences, with certificates of completion.
The VPT supports preparation for Flight Simulation Training Device (FSTD) sessions, letting pilots build procedural knowledge through self-paced practice on mobile devices and in Virtual Reality (VR). Its virtual cockpit lets pilots practise with switches, levers and panels, with haptic feedback, covering Airbus standard operating and abnormal procedures. A virtual instructor provides different levels of guidance, and trainees can also practise procedure flows and conduct virtual aircraft walkarounds, including defect inspections. The VPT can be used on VR and tablet devices.
Airbus is exhibiting at the European Aviation Training Summit (EATS), 3–5 November at the Estoril Congress Centre in Cascais, Portugal, at Booth 304. Stop by to learn more.
