Skyborne has given 17 girls aged 10-14 their first flying lesson. The experience, in conjunction with non-profit organization PreFlight Aviation Camp, serves to challenge gender stereotypes in the aviation industry.
Gwynith Matarazzo from Melbourne Beach, Florida, says: "My favourite part of PreFlight Camp has been the overall experience of learning the lessons and learning about how women in aviation paved the path for us to learn. I would love to be an airline pilot because of how flying and aviation can bring you to different cultures and you can learn about other places. I love how flying brings people together."
PreFlight Camp is a Skyborne-chosen charity and offers young girls aged 10-14 a hands-on approach into aviation through Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (STEAM). PreFlight Campers learn to pilot a simulator and experience a discovery flight with a female instructor to empower them to believe that becoming a pilot is achievable.
