RAN-EW-Simulation-Training-Systems

The Australian Ministry of Defence has awarded a three-year, AU$7.5 million contract to Sydney-based business Cirrus Real Time Processing Systems to deliver additional Tactical Electronic Warfare (TACEW) simulation training systems for the Royal Australian Navy (RAN). The TACEW systems are located at the School of Maritime Warfare at HMAS Watson and used by the RAN to deliver end to end training for the EW operators of its Major Fleet Units.

The new contract extends Cirrus’ role in delivering TACEW simulation training systems and will improve the RAN’s training system capacity.

Cirrus was awarded a contract valued at approximately AU$4.4 million in 2017 for the development of a tactical electronic warfare training system based on single facility ashore to provide tuition, assessment and qualification of EW practitioners across the full range of RAN ships.

“This investment demonstrates that our industry has the ability to develop and deliver world-leading advanced simulation engineering technology, to increase the Navy’s electronic warfare expertise,” Minister for Defence Industry, Melissa Price said in a release.

“The Tactical Electronic Warfare system is the outcome of Cirrus' engineering capability developing our Australian technology and underlying intellectual property,” stated Cirrus’ Managing Director Peter Freed in a release.

The Australian firm has previously provided the Navy’s School of Maritime Warfare with high-tech simulation workstations that blended traditional classroom learning with hands on practical training for preparing sailors for duties at sea. Other training systems provided by the company for the Navy, include a Communications Centre simulator at HMAS Cerberus, and a Mine Hunting Simulation System at HMAS Waterhen.
