The U.S. Army has launched Detachment 201: Executive Innovation Corps, a new initiative aimed at integrating senior technology professionals into the Army Reserve. The program seeks to leverage private-sector expertise to accelerate innovation within the military, particularly in support of the Army Transformation Initiative.

On June 13, 2025, four civilian tech leaders were sworn in as part-time Army Reserve officers. These include Shyam Sankar of Palantir, Andrew Bosworth of Meta, Kevin Weil of OpenAI, and Bob McGrew, formerly with OpenAI and now at Thinking Machines Lab. Each officer will contribute to specialized projects, advising on scalable, tech-forward solutions to complex military challenges.

Detachment 201 aims to bridge the gap between commercial technology and defense operations while providing a model for tech professionals to serve without leaving their civilian careers.
