Bundeswehr Deploys VR Training System for Special Forces

The special and specialized forces of the Bundeswehr have begun implementing a VirtHT – Virtueller Handlungstrainer (VR Action Trainer). Within different virtual operational environments, multiple soldiers can train complex tactical situations together, communicating, coordinating actions, and making decisions under time pressure. Exercises, scenarios, and operational spaces can be created, adapted, repeated, and evaluated in a short time.

The VirtHT was developed with the Bundeswehr, commissioned by the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) and developed in cooperation with the Technical Center for Weapons and Ammunition (WTD 91). The platform has been procured for the Bundeswehr for rollout since March 2026.

The digital platform combines immersive training scenarios, simulation, and integration of mission-relevant equipment within a shared digital infrastructure, including digital representation of original Bundeswehr equipment such as the G95 assault rifle, military police equipment, medical equipment, hand grenades, and glow sticks. Every exercise can be evaluated digitally, with movements, communication, decisions, and tactical processes recorded and analyzed.

HOLOGATE is expanding the platform to include additional weapon systems, including the ENFORCER guided missile system from MBDA, already integrated. The platform supports training environments for all military branches of the Bundeswehr and is designed to be mobile, packed in roll cases for relocation to spaces such as sports halls and vehicle depots.

With the first systems for special and specialized forces, they now have the opportunity to develop their own scenarios and ultimately raise their operational readiness to an even higher level. We are taking a decisive step closer to the important principle of 'Train as you fight' with this type of virtual action trainer."
