Airmen from the Kentucky Air National Guard’s 123rd Civil Engineer Squadron conducted a two-week training mission at Lajes Field in the Azores, working alongside the Portuguese military to improve readiness and support base infrastructure.

The mission involved multiple specialties, including fire protection, electrical power, structural maintenance, and heating and ventilation. Projects ranged from perimeter fence repairs and corrosion prevention to live-burn firefighting drills and aircraft arresting system maintenance.

Senior Master Sgt. Steve Ramge Jr. emphasized the value of the assignment, noting that overseas training provided “hands-on and real-world experience” beyond what is available at home.

The joint effort strengthened operational skills, fostered cooperation with international partners, and contributed to long-term improvements at the base.
