U.S. Transportation Command launched Ultimate Caduceus 2024 on July 21, testing how the Department of Defense coordinates medical evacuation from the Indo-Pacific to the United States. The exercise involves over 1,000 participants, including military personnel, federal agencies, and teams from 21 civilian hospitals. Agencies taking part include the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Department of Health and Human Services, and the Defense Health Agency.

Running through August 2, the exercise features both virtual and in-person training in Hawaii, California, New Mexico, and Illinois. It includes the use of fixed- and rotary-wing aircraft and tests the National Disaster Medical System’s pilot program for coordinated emergency response.

As the lead for global patient movement, U.S. Transportation Command uses high-capacity aircraft and medical teams to deliver care and evacuate personnel during crises.
