MASS, part of Cohort plc, launched its SESCO training methodology for electronic warfare (EW) and cyber and electromagnetic activity (CEMA) personnel at AOC Europe. The five-stage method—simulate, emulate, stimulate, calibrate, and operate—blends classroom and field-based learning to prepare operators for real-world, multi-threat environments.

SESCO integrates MASS’s NEWTS training system to replicate the full EW cycle without emitting detectable RF signals, enhancing security during training. Key stages involve realistic signal environments, equipment calibration, and mission rehearsal. The methodology aims to build not just knowledge but operational confidence through exposure to complex electromagnetic challenges.

Keith Norton, Managing Director at MASS said, “Recent conflicts have clearly highlighted the importance of EW for obtaining operational advantage. Preparation and training are crucial to ensuring EW operators have the skills and experience needed to navigate a congested and contested electromagnetic environment before deployment. This is where the SESCO approach is unique - it enables personnel to train in a realistic environment, facing the challenges of congestion to apply their classroom-based learning.”
