The 59th Medical Wing at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland demonstrated SimX’s Virtual Reality Operational Medical Training system at Wilford Hall Ambulatory Surgical Center. The system, called VALOR, enables medics to train in immersive environments replicating battlefield trauma, casualty care, aeromedical evacuation, chemical or biological incidents, and K-9 emergencies.

Unlike mannequin-based training, the VR system can be quickly set up and tailored to match operational stressors such as noise or low light. Educators can adjust complexity in real time, allowing medics to refine individual and team skills across every stage of patient care.

Leaders noted the technology’s potential to broaden training options and address scheduling and equipment challenges. The 59th Medical Wing, already central to Air Force medical education, is evaluating whether VR can complement existing readiness programs.
