On June 11, 2025, the 15th Maintenance Group held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for a new virtual reality (VR) training system developed to simulate real-world aircraft maintenance tasks. The system provides foundational and advanced training modules, from basic inspections to complex engine runs, allowing Airmen to build confidence and skills in a controlled environment.

Before VR, initial training was done directly on aircraft. Now, trainees can complete critical repetitions safely and with fewer resource demands. The system also integrates features like virtual technical orders that read instructions aloud, aiding task performance and comprehension.

The VR modules are being incorporated into upcoming programs, including a new heavy integrated avionics course. While still early in implementation, leadership sees the technology as a tool with broad potential across maintenance roles. As Airmen adapt to new tech, VR is becoming a valuable asset in modern training approaches.
