Miami University has received a $1.5 million grant from the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation to launch SIGHT (Safety Immersion and Gamified Hazard Training), an initiative that merges AI, virtual reality (VR), and augmented reality (AR) to modernize safety training for manufacturing workers. Developed in partnership with the Farmer School of Business and the Advanced Manufacturing Workforce and Innovation Hub, SIGHT will provide personalized hazard simulations and real-time AR feedback to reduce preventable injuries.

The training tools, accessible through web browsers and natural language interfaces, will support a wide range of learners, including those with sensory impairments. The Hub, opening in January 2026, will serve as a testbed for applying these technologies in real manufacturing settings. SIGHT is expected to benefit small and mid-sized companies and expand nationally by 2028.
