Mason County EMS in West Virginia has introduced augmented reality into its training programs using PerSim, a medical simulation software developed by MedCognition. This technology allows staff to rehearse a wide range of emergency scenarios by wearing specialized AR goggles, adding a virtual layer to traditional hands-on training.
The PerSim system will be used in EMT classes and shared during outreach events at schools, career centers, and industrial sites across the county. By replacing or enhancing mannequin-based training, EMS staff aim to improve response times and decision-making during real-life emergencies. The in-house system reflects a broader trend toward immersive, technology-driven education in the medical field.
