Lamar Institute of Technology (LIT) has been awarded a $324,657 Advanced Technological Education (ATE) grant from the National Science Foundation to fund a three-year Industrial Safety Training Using Virtual Reality project. The initiative integrates immersive VR and AR modules into Process Operating Technology and Instrumentation Technology programs, simulating real-world safety scenarios in a risk-free environment. The program aligns with national efforts to prepare technicians for high-tech industries by strengthening hands-on training and safety awareness.
The project equips LIT with VR hardware and industry-focused training software and plans to expand to additional programs over time. The initiative is supported by local industry partners, including ExxonMobil Beaumont and Scallon Controls.
